Assume changeable, confirm at the destination
Some details in a spreadsheet are stable; many are not. The moss-green layer of the legend marks the changeable ones. The rule is simple: treat them as moving until you re-read them on the live page.
The six changeable details
- Price.
Currency, amount, and discount wording shift between views. Re-read the price on the destination page at the moment you need it.
- Stock.
Availability changes without notice and is not a promise. Re-read availability where it is actually shown.
- Options.
Colors, sizes, versions, and quantities may differ from the row label. Confirm the exact option before relying on it.
- Images.
Photos can be replaced, re-staged, or shown for a different variant. Check that the image matches the option you are looking at.
- Seller.
The storefront or listing owner can change over time. Re-read who is actually offering the item.
- Shipping.
Times, costs, and service wording are estimates until confirmed on the page where they are stated.
Define a re-check rule for each
For every changeable detail, write down two things: where it is confirmed and when it counts. For example:
- Price is confirmed on the destination page, at the moment you intend to use it.
- Stock is confirmed where availability is shown, not in the spreadsheet row.
- Options are confirmed by the exact color, size, version, or quantity on the page.
Do not carry old values forward
If a detail changed since you last looked, write down the new value and where you saw it. Do not silently keep the old one, and do not blend the sheet value with the page value. A mismatch is a note to resolve, not a reason to guess.
A changeable detail is not unreliable — it is simply time-sensitive. Read it where it lives, when it matters.
A worked reading
- Row shows a price and a stock count from earlier.
- On the page the price or stock differs. Record both, mark the page value as current.
- Before relying on either, re-read the detail on the live page and note the time.
