Three sizes, three jobs

The word “size” hides three different things. Keep them apart, or the row will read as more certain than it is.

Label size

The size printed on the tag or label. It is a statement from the item, not a measurement of your body. A label is a definition, not a fit.

Page size information

The dimensions the listing states. They are the seller’s numbers, which may be estimates, and are not your own measurements.

Your own needs

The fit or size you actually want. This is your measurement, not something the label or the page can decide for you.

?Open item: which of the three sizes are you actually looking at?

What not to promise

A worked note

  1. Label size: the tag reads a size you can see.
  2. Page size: the listing states dimensions separately.
  3. Your needs: you compare both against your own measurement.

Example note — a reading framework, not a live measurement.
