Pause is a beat, not a stop

Pausing is not giving up. It is holding the bar for a moment so you can re-read the page and return to the need. Pause when any of the four signs below appears.

1 — Label has no source

If a claim has no visible origin, do not let it carry the decision. Pause and find where it comes from.

2 — Page has changed

If what you open differs from what the sheet recorded, pause and re-read the current page before acting on the old record.

3 — Information conflicts

If two sources disagree, pause and record both. A conflict is a question, not a tie to break by feeling.

4 — Heat overrides detail

If popularity language is crowding out the visible details, pause and return to category, use, and options.

A worked pause

  1. Sign: the label says "best" with no source.
  2. Pause: the label is set aside.
  3. Recheck: the category, options, and page are re-read.
  4. Result: the need decides, not the label.
